The latest news regarding the UPSC exams in 2024 includes updates to the annual calendar and important exam schedules. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released a revised calendar, affecting several exams in 2025, including the Civil Services Examination (CSE). The Civil Services Mains Examination Date scheduled for September 20, 2024.

The Union Public Service Commission, in all seriousness, conducts an annually held Civil Services Examination to recruit officers for various services such as the Indian Administrative Service. The UPSC IAS Exam 2024 syllabus is broad-ranging and wide, covering subjects reflecting the multi-dimensional role an IAS officer is required to play in governance. The exam includes three stages: Preliminary, Main Examination, and the Personality Test.

Preliminary Examination is the initiation stage of the IAS exam journey. This is further divided into two papers: General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II. General Studies Paper I shall include Indian History, Indian and World Geography, Indian Polity and Governance, Economic and Social Development, Environmental Ecology, General Science, and current events of national and international importance. This paper is designed to test the candidate's knowledge and understanding of various subjects that are vital for a civil servant. General Studies Paper II shall test the analytical skills, logical reasoning interpersonal skills, decision-making ability, and basic numeracy of the candidate. It shall comprise comprehension, communication skills, decision-making, problem-solving, general mental ability, and data interpretation.

Those who make the cut-off in Prelims enter the Main Examination, which is more comprehensive and detailed. Mains comprises nine papers, out of which two are qualifying papers: one in any Indian language and another in English. The remaining seven papers are ranked. It contains Essay; four General Studies papers: GS I, GS II, GS III, and GS IV; two papers on an optional subject chosen by the candidate, known as the Optional Paper.
