CAT 2024 Common Admission Test for MBA Course Online Application

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is one of India’s premier entrance exams for MBA programs, especially for the prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other top B-schools. CAT 2024 will be conducted on November 24, 2024, in a computer-based format across various cities. Organized this year by IIM Calcutta, the test has three slots with a two-hour duration each.

Eligibility and Registration

To be eligible for CAT, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks (or 45% for SC, ST, and PwD categories). There’s no age limit, but final-year undergraduate students can also apply. The registration fee for general and OBC candidates is INR 2500, while it’s INR 1250 for SC/ST/PwD candidates

Exam Pattern

CAT 2024 is a computer-based test with three sections:

  1. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) – about 24 questions.
  2. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) – around 20 questions.
  3. Quantitative Ability (QA) – approximately 22 questions.

The test lasts 2 hours, with 40 minutes allotted per section. Each section is timed individually, meaning candidates can’t switch sections mid-exam. There are both Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Type in the Answer (TITA) questions, with negative marking (-1 mark) for incorrect MCQs but none for TITA questions. Each correct answer awards 3 marks

Marking and Scoring

For MCQs, each correct answer gives 3 points, and incorrect answers deduct 1 point. TITA questions do not have negative marking, allowing candidates to answer with less risk. The three sections collectively have a total of 66 questions, split across three sessions on the exam day
